Gilt Leather Panels
Southern gold leather panel Netherlands, 1670-1690 This embossed gold leather panel with a light-blue background has on the right side a wide wavy garland of fruits and flowers, from which a scrolling vine develops in the center and golden with lush flowers and fruits. At the center of this vine sits a berry-eating parrot, a popular motif that occurs on many different patterns of golden skin. A dragonfly is also attracted to fruit. Both animals could be interpreted as a symbol of eating. With this meaning this specific pattern is very appropriate for a dinning-room
